The learning curve on this watch if you use it for fishing may take some time. The moon phase is nice to know about and the sunrise and sunset is pretty cool too, but I didn’t give this watch 5 stars because for the money it didn’t give me the one option I used more than any other on previous cheaper watches, a timer. This one has the stopwatch but there is no timer you can set for say 10 or 15 minutes. It keeps great time so far, but that’s typical of Casio. The backlight is very bright, enough so that you can almost use it as a flashlight, and the option on this model where you can set it for the backlight to come on everytime you hold your arm a certain way is cool. If you’re looking for a good water proof timepiece and you don’t really care about the timer issue, this is the one. And yeah I’m vain about what it looks like on my arm; it looks manly and cool.

My boyfriend had an older model of this watch that he wore for work and play for years. He wore it while fighting forest fires and fishing in the PNW, and it held up great. I bought this watch for him as a Christmas gift, and he loved it. It looks great, is comfotable and was reasonably priced. Hopefully it has the lasting power of his previous one.

great watch with some surprising features… vibrates instead of beeping on the hour – moon stages based on your lat/longitude and an illumination option activated whenever you turn your wrist as if you were looking at the time….
well worth the price!

I bought this watch for my fishing addicted oldman.
I did all the setup for him. He loves the watch, he wears it even not go fishing. His friends keep asking where to get one.
Its not too big as i thought.
Very nice leather, cloth band and 100m water resist,5stars for the moon phase feature.
Too bad it doesnt have navigator and tide chart, not with $35 lol…
A very nice, fun and afordable gift.

I haven’t ever seen a watch like this. It’s much more than just a sports watch. They have crammed a bunch of features into a small space.
My favorite is the vibrating alarm. I haven’t ever seen that on a watch before. The automatic light is amazing as well. You can set the watch so the light comes on when you tip it at a 45 degree angle. This is a feature you can turn on or off.
As far as the other features, I’m not a hunter, but see a lot of uses for non-hunters. The watch actually knows when the sun and moon rise and set based on coordinates for your area. The sound alarm works well. You can set up to 5 different alarms for different times of the day.
If you’re a hunter, this is the perfect watch! It tells you the ideal feeding times and hunting times based on coordinates for your area. You would be able to know a bunch of information with minimal body movement.
The only negative is the camouflage wrist band, but that can be easily replaced. It’s also a hunting watch, so that’s probably a positive if I were a hunter. I just got the watch because I’m a gadget guy.

I’ve been wearing this watch since high school (over 15 years ago). I bought it for track so I could pace my practices. I can’t find any watch out there that has the countdown feature that repeats, so I can set it to ding at me every 3 minutes or 2 hours or whatever. I love the digital – it’s easy to read in a pinch. And I’m not really aware of time, so the hourly alarm really helps me keep track. I do agree that it is not the most attractive watch – especially for a female, but I just can’t get enough of this light-weight, easy to use watch. I’ve had probably 5 of this exact watch. I lost my last two and I’ve worn out the rest. I try to wear other watches.. analog, silver, gold… that are more fashionable, but I just can’t break away from this watch. I was heartbroken when Target stopped selling it, and elated when I found it on the web. I’m excited to know it’s a 20 year old design… that way I can be confident that it will be around for a while. If not, I’d buy 50 more so I could make sure I always had one! That’s how much I LOVE this watch… I just ordered it off this site after being without it for a year (did I mention Target?) and I cannot wait for it to arrive!! I should have bought 2…

These watches bring back good memories. When I was young, I always wanted a watch because I thought it looked cool. One day that wish came true and the Casio F28W-1 came into my possession. It went through years of abuse (I was young after all) and one day the fastener part of the band broke, which I fixed by taking a small piece of metal cut from a paper clip, bent it, and attached to the band. That lasted for another couple of years until it finally died for good.
After 10+ years of going through crappy watches, I remembered my Casio watch. So I decided to look online and to my surprise they still made them!!! However, like many other buyers I was confused with similar models. So I did some searching and here is what I found:

I decided to purchase the Casio W71-1V Model simply because it had the most functionality. For less than $20, they simply are the best.
It’s Super Thin (this was a priority to me, because I HATE HATE HATE wearing bricks), durable (this depends on how much you abuse it), VERY comfortable (the band is lightweight and the fastener does not hurt unlike casio gshocks which have a heavy plastic band with a metal fastener that hurts after prolonged use), useful, and very simple.
It is important when choosing a watch that you look at the Water Resistance. Some users have complained of their watches dying after water exposure. Here is some info taken directly from the Casio manual.
Water Resistantant means it can only withstand rain, splashes, etc.
50M Water Resistant means it can withstand rain, splashes, swimming, car-washing, etc.
100M and Higher Water Resistat means it can withstand rain, splashes, swimming, car-washing, snorkeling, diving, scuba diving, etc.
Common Sense really.
The only downside of wearing these watches is that you can never go back to any other watch. Once you wear it, your stuck for life (or rather the life of your watch
. You’ll hate every watch after wearing this. A great addition to your cart if you need to qualify for free shipping.
Hope you enjoy these watches as much as me,

I’ve used this model for past 10+ years. I don’t remember when I first used this one, but the last one I had finally died after about 10 years, earlier this spring. So, I bought another one, exactly same model. I don’t remember whether I had this model or another cheaper model before the previous one.
But the previous one went with me from the cold winters of Chicago to the sizzling summers of Iraq where temperature was well over 140+ degrees (I know this b/c others with Suunto watch with thermometer told me). Used it when I was swimming, kayaking, running, biking, etc. etc. I remember changing the battery at least once and changed the strap 2 or 3 times.
So, when the last one died in April of 2005, I went out and bought another one. This one should last another 10 years. What more can you ask for for $20?

I really like this watch. It’s very comfortable. It is light and thin. It is the only watch I’ve had in recent memory that I don’t take off when I work.
If you want to try to impress people with your cool watch, look elsewhere. If you want a nice watch for yourself, look at this watch or a similar one.
Yes, it has a light so you can check the time when it is dark.
By the way, this design is more than 20 years old. When you set the year, you can set it as far back as 1985.
Hope this helps.
